Responsible purchasing practices for procurement teams

Procurement professionals make tough decisions every day, and face intense pressure to meet the bottom line. But many of those decisions also shape conditions for workers they will never meet. Price negotiations, lead time expectations, order changes, payment terms – each decision carries downstream consequences that can be felt acutely in factories and farms across global supply chains.

Most buyers are aware of this. The challenge is knowing how to factor human rights considerations into decisions that are driven by competing commercial pressures, tight timelines and complex supply bases. This course is designed to make that practical by grounding trainees in how they can embed processes and decisions throughout the procurement cycle, in people-focused and pragmatic ways.

About the course

Format: Online or in person
Duration: 1.5 hours – half a day
Audience: Procurement, Buying and Commercial teams

Each decision carries downstream consequences that are felt acutely in factories and farms across global supply chains.

What the course covers

This course gives buying teams a clear understanding of where their decisions create human rights risk – and a suite of options to choose from in terms of what they can do differently.

Participants leave with actionable tools for integrating responsible purchasing into sourcing, planning and buying decisions, and a stronger foundation for working alongside sustainability and ethical trade colleagues.

What we bring

Inherently Human were the ETI’s trusted partner in building their Responsible Purchasing Practices Resource Hub, and have facilitated the Responsible Procurement Working Group for FNET. Our team (all former members of in-house human rights teams) also brings direct experience of working hand in hand with buyers within major European businesses – which means we understand the real pressures facing procurement teams, and we promote change that is in line with commercial realities.

What our clients say

Clients who’ve taken this training include Minor, Weir and Willis, and Sainsbury’s.
