Human rights for B Corps – at every stage

Under the new B Corp standards, human rights is a mandatory requirement, with its own bar to clear and its own evidence to provide. It is also woven through most of the other impact areas, from fair work and inclusion to governance, collective action and the just transition at the heart of climate action.

That means the human rights work we do with you strengthens your position across the standards as a whole, and we can help you manage those connections from the start.

Human rights for B Corps – at every stage

What’s changed?

What’s asked of a company depends on its size and sector: larger organisations and those in higher-risk industries face a deeper set of requirements, including formal risk profiling, supplier screening and remediation processes. Smaller companies have a lighter set of expectations. Almost no one is exempt.

Who’s responsible?

For many B Corps and applicants, this is new territory. Human rights due diligence touches supply chains, HR, procurement, legal and governance all at once, which means the workload doesn’t sit neatly with one person or one department. Ownership is often unclear, and the evidence assessors want, policies, risk assessments, grievance records, supplier data, rarely exists in one place or in a form that holds up under review.

We help B Corps and B Corp candidates build human rights due diligence that stands up to scrutiny: credible, evidenced and built to last long past the audit.

Starting your B Corp journey

Helping you understand what good human rights due diligence looks like.

Many new applicants discover that the human rights requirements go further than they expected. Assessors want to see risk mapping, supplier screening, grievance mechanisms and clear governance.

Common starting points we see:

  • No formal human rights policy
  • Limited understanding of human rights due diligence
  • Weak or absent supplier screening
  • No grievance mechanism
  • No modern slavery risk assessment
  • Unclear ownership and accountability

How we help

Human rights baseline assessment, gap analysis against B Lab requirements, risk mapping, policy development, modern slavery statements, supplier codes of conduct, leadership training and implementation support through to certification.

We help you move from good intentions to a credible, evidence-based human rights programme, one that satisfies B Corp requirements and holds real value for the business.

Beyond certification

You’ve achieved compliance. What’s next?

We know that some organisations are using B Corp as a platform: for supply chain leadership, procurement advantage, investor confidence, or building trust with discerning, values-led customers. That takes you beyond compliance and closer to human rights as a core part of your business strategy.

What this looks like in practice:

  • Moving from compliance to strategic impact
  • Demonstrating leadership across the supply chain
  • Building human rights into procurement decisions
  • Measuring outcomes, not just activity
  • Preparing for regulation on the horizon

How we help

Advanced human rights strategy, salient human rights assessments, supply chain due diligence programmes, human rights KPIs and reporting, board and executive coaching, stakeholder engagement, and responsible purchasing practices.

We help purpose-led companies turn human rights from a certification requirement into a strategic advantage.

Recertifying under the new standards

You’ve got the badge, but now the bar has moved.

The old scoring model allowed strength in one area to offset weakness in another. The new standards require compliance across every impact topic, human rights included, with more rigorous verification and a clear expectation of continuous improvement.

Common challenges at recertification include:

  • Existing policies fall short of the new requirements
  • Human rights work is scattered across departments
  • Supplier due diligence isn’t sufficient
  • Evidence and documentation are thin
  • No structured plan for closing the gaps
  • No one clearly owns the work internally

How we help

Recertification readiness review, human rights compliance audit, evidence and documentation support, gap closure programmes, policy refresh, governance design, and coaching for the internal team who’ll carry this forward.

We help existing B Corps move from the old scoring model to the new human-rights-focused standards, with a clear plan and someone experienced alongside them.

For B Corp consultants and sustainability advisers

You know B Corp. We know human rights.

Many consultancies know the certification process inside out but reach the point where a client needs specialist human rights expertise: the UN Guiding Principles, modern slavery, grievance mechanisms, worker voice, or a complex supply chain.

We’re here to work alongside you, to help you achieve your clients’ goals.

Where we come in:

  • A client asks a detailed human rights question you’d rather have answered by a specialist
  • A complex supply chain needs a closer look
  • In-house human rights expertise is limited
  • A credible delivery partner is needed for a specific piece of work

How we help

White-label support, associate partnerships, specialist advisory input, joint client delivery, human rights training for consultants and in-house teams, and technical review of client work.

In short, we act as your specialist human rights partner for B Corp certification projects.

Where to start

Human rights is now a core requirement of B Corp certification, whichever stage you’re at. We help organisations understand, implement and evidence the human rights due diligence processes demanded by the new B Corp standards.
