Modern slavery reporting
A Modern Slavery Statement is a legal requirement for many global businesses. It should be an honest account of what risks a business has identified, what it has done about them, and where it still needs to go. Getting that balance right takes deep expertise and clarity.
We have worked with major retailers and brands on their Modern Slavery Statements, helping them to move beyond boilerplate language towards reporting that is substantive, credible and useful to the people who read it. That means being clear about where the risks are, what actions have been taken and – critically – what the outcomes have been. Regulators, investors and civil society organisations are increasingly able to distinguish between statements that reflect real, concerted effort and those that do not.
How we help
We support clients at every stage of the process: from understanding what the legislation requires and reviewing existing statements, through to drafting, editing and helping to build the internal processes that make good reporting possible year on year.
We also help clients to think beyond the minimum legal requirement – using the statement as an opportunity to demonstrate progress, signal commitment and build trust with suppliers, customers and stakeholders.
What this involves
- Review and gap analysis of existing Modern Slavery Statements against legal requirements, competitors and current best practice
- Support in drafting layout and content
- Guidance on the underlying processes and evidence needed to support a credible statement
- Advice on meeting and exceeding government reporting requirements
- Support to develop a year-on-year approach to continuous improvement in reporting
